Acrylic and gold leaf on board
Small series of paintings I created after visiting Portugal in 2022. At home we live amongst eucalyptus trees, the iconic tree in the Australian landscape. A much loved tree that fits within the ecosystems and cultures of Australia.
In Portugal we encountered vast bluegum plantations, on barren dry hills. Eucalyptus globulus represents 26.2% of the Portuguese forest area, covering 845,000 ha. Concentrated in the northern and central regions, roughly 10 percent of Portugal's land area is planted with Eucalyptus globulus, an exotic, highly invasive, fast-growing species.
